Whatever the application, we have a range of plywood types to choose from which can be cut to any size or shape using our CNC router for a great level of accuracy and repeatability. All you need to do is send us your drawings in either CAD format or a sketch and we can cut it. As well as cutting shapes and curves into plywood sheets, our CNC router can also be used for rebating, pocketing and hole cutting, for most other sheet materials in addition to plywood. We also provide laser cutting and CNC engraving services for added decorative options.
If you’re looking for a material for printing, you may want to consider birch plywood. Using state-of-the-art UV printers, we have the capability to print full sheets of plywood in one go, providing a reliable finish and quicker results than can be achieved with painting. We currently only list 8x4 sheets (2440x1220mm) but we can purchase and cut sheets of up to 2000x3000mm, so get in touch with our team today to discuss your requirements. We offer optional next day delivery if you’re working to a deadline and if you have a larger order, we have our own transport service which operates throughout most of the UK. If you have a bigger project and require ongoing supply, contact us to discuss bulk discounts and regular supply orders.
18mm plywood sheets strikes the perfect balance between affordability and great quality, making it a brilliant material for a host of different applications. The method for constructing plywood sheets involves layering sheets of wood at contrasting 90-degree angles and securing with glue and compression for a strong and hard-wearing material. The result is a product that can withstand weight well and resists shrinkage, warping and twisting. We offer custom cutting services that enable you to purchase plywood sheets in any size or shape to suit your needs.
Types of 18mm Plywood and Their Gradings
There are several different varieties of plywood, depending on the application you’re using it for, but the four most common types of plywood are softwood, hardwood, birch and marine ply. Wood comes in a variety of grades; we offer the grades listed below. See our plywood grading guide for more information on the types available.
- Softwood plywood is the most commonly manufactured plywood and is available in various thicknesses. It’s typically used in construction projects as it’s affordable and versatile. There are several grades of this wood to choose between, from C+/C grade which has knots on both sides of the wood, with those on the facing C+ side filled and touch sanded.
- Hardwood plywood is made from stronger timbers and is commonly used for applications that require longevity. Chinese hardwood plywood is a high BB/CC grade wood which means it has few knots and slight discolouration to the surface of the wood, with a CC grade reverse.
- Birch plywood that we offer comes in BB/BB grade, this is a good quality Utility Plywood as it has a solid face but may include patches and other knots/imperfections, and is described as the all-round workhorse for the trade; good for general use, furniture, painting, laminating, and veneering.
- Marine plywood is for use in environments where the wood is exposed to moisture for extended periods. The type of wood we offer has a high-quality BB/BB face grade and is well-suited to demanding environments such as gardens, bathrooms and parks as well as for roof supports and advertising panels.
Advantages of 18mm Plywood Sheets
Plywood has a great selection of brilliant properties that make it a useful material, from its strength and lightweight qualities to its ability to spread the weight of items out efficiently for less stress and tension on the wood. Plywood is resistant to shrinkage, warping and twisting, so any application it is used for is built to stand the test of time. It’s also resistant to changes in moisture levels and temperature, without showing signs of delamination or a loss in structural integrity. 18mm sheets are naturally sturdier and more stable than thinner sheets of plywood, so they’re perfect for projects where this quality is required.
Applications of 18mm Plywood Sheets
18mm plywood sheets can be used in a variety of ways, from general joinery to furniture making. The affordability of plywood makes it ideally suited to temporary construction and concrete frameworks. It’s also a great material for shelving, wardrobes, cabinets and doors. 18mm sheets are well-suited to applications that make use of their stability and rigidity, as it won’t warp or bend when exposed to harsh conditions.
