We provide several different types of MDF sheeting which can be cut to any size or shape using our CNC router for a high level of precision and repeatability. Whatever shape you need for your chosen project, we can create it – all you need to do is send us your drawings, in either CAD format or a sketch, and we can cut it to size for you. Alongside cutting any shape or curve, our CNC router can be used for rebating, pocketing and hole cutting on MDF sheets, as well as virtually any other sheet material. There is also the option to add laser cutting and CNC engraving services, and mitred edges to your MDF sheets.
Using state-of-the-art UV printers, we can print full sheets of MDF in one go, providing a consistent finish at a much faster rate than painting. We currently only list 8x4 sheets (2440x1220mm) but we’re able to purchase and cut sheets of up to 2000x3000mm, so get in touch with our team today to discuss your requirements. With optional next day delivery, your products can be with you quickly and for larger orders, we have our own transport service which operates throughout most of the UK. And if you have an ongoing project taking place, get in contact with us to discuss bulk discounts and regular supply orders.
9mm MDF is an adaptable material that is produced from a mix of hard and soft woods, sawdust and recycled offcuts which are combined with resins to create a lightweight yet hard-wearing material. It has a characteristically smooth surface that is ideally suited to painting, staining or applying laminates and veneers to for plenty of versatility. We stock various sizes of MDF sheets, with our most popular being 12mm MDF sheets and 18mm MDF sheets, cut to size or shape.
Types of 9mm MDF
There are different varieties of MDF with distinctive properties, depending on the application you’re using it for. Wood comes in a variety of grades – we offer the grades listed below for our MDF options. See our wood grading guide for more information on the types available.
- Moisture resistant MDF can be used in areas of homes or businesses where moisture or humidity is an issue, such as bathrooms, kitchens or storage areas.
- Premier MDF sheeting is a high-quality material that makes use of superior wood refining technology and high-grade resins for greater consistency both in terms of thickness and quality. This form of MDF is best-suited to furniture, toys or cabinetry, delivering a reliable and uniform result.
- Fire retardant MDF is commonly used in schools, hospitals, offices or cinemas and can provide up to 60 minutes of fire protection when used in applications such as doors, kick plates or partitions.
Advantages of 9mm MDF Sheets
MDF is often chosen over other types of wood for its many great properties, but one of the main reasons why it is chosen is its affordability. It’s a cost-effective material that suits all different budgets and can be used in a number of ways for added versatility. Even premier-grade MDF can be more affordable than solid lumber and still provides great face qualities so that laminates and veneers can adhere smoothly. In addition to laminates, MDF also takes adhesives and paints well too, so it’s ideal for customising projects. This wood can be fixed into place easily with glues, screws or nails, and it can be marked up and cut with ease thanks to the smooth surface. MDF is ideal for interior projects and applications and providing it doesn’t come into direct contact with water, it provides a stable and durable result. MDF often has a reputation for being a cheaper wood but Medite Premier MDF provides a great surface texture that has brilliant face-properties, so it can be used in applications where the appearance of the wood is just as important as the structural integrity.
Applications of 9mm MDF Sheets
The versatility of MDF has made it a popular choice for a range of applications, from speaker cases for musical equipment to cabinetry, children’s toys and even snooker tables. It’s the go-to choice of material for flat pack furniture as well, as it’s lightweight and affordable but also strong and durable. 9mm MDF can be used for shop fitting and display cases, as well as for shelving and wall panelling kits.
