We offer different types of MDF sheets for various projects and environments which can be cut to any size or shape using our CNC router for a high level of precision and repeatability. Whatever shape or design you have in mind, we can cut it – just send us your drawings, either in CAD format or as a sketch, and we can create it for you. CNC routers can also be used for rebating, pocketing and hole cutting on MDF sheets, as well as virtually any other sheet material. There is the option to add laser cutting, CNC engraving and mitred edges to your MDF sheeting too.
Using state-of-the-art UV printers, we can print full sheets of MDF in one go, providing a consistent finish at a much faster rate than painting. We currently only list 8x4 sheets (2440x1220mm) but we’re able to purchase and cut sheets of up to 2000x3000mm, so get in touch with our team today to discuss your requirements. With optional next day delivery, your products can be with you fast. For bigger orders, we have our own transport service which operates throughout most of the UK. If you have a larger ongoing project taking place, you can contact us to discuss bulk discounts and regular supply orders.
18mm moisture-resistant MDF boards are designed to withstand humid and damp conditions while providing durability. This resilient material is made using a moisture-repelling resin which allows for greater resistance to humidity. This premium-grade MDF is perfectly suited to interior applications such as kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms where standard MDF may lose its structural integrity over time. We provide cutting services that allow you to purchase the exact size and shape you require for your chosen project, as well as quick delivery so you can get started as soon as possible.
18mm Moisture Resistant MDF Uses
There are several different varieties of MDF, depending on the application you’re using it for.
- Moisture-resistant grade MDF can be used in areas of homes or businesses where moisture or humidity is an issue, such as bathrooms, kitchens or storage areas.
Advantages of 18mm Moisture-Resistant MDF
While moisture-resistant MDF is not the same as water-resistant – meaning it is still prone to swelling and warping if it comes into direct contact with the element – it will maintain its stability and strength in humid conditions. It’s an easy wood to work with, as it can be cut with a hand saw or power tools and takes well to glues, adhesives and screws. It’s also an easy material to fabricate and machine, so it can be laser cut or routed with ease. MDF is renowned for its smooth surface texture so it takes well to stains, paint and varnishes, as well as being the perfect base for laminates and veneers. MDF is easy to sand down and provides a smooth and professional finish – sanding also has the added benefit of sealing in the edges after cutting and machining which prevents harmful fibres from being released from the board.
MDF is an environmentally-friendly product as it’s made up of wood chippings, sawdust and recycled offcuts that have no other purpose and would otherwise be discarded. While different manufacturers include different quantities of recycled materials in their wood, this product is incredibly green and a great use of materials that would typically be thrown away. The advantage of choosing 18mm MDF over thinner varieties is that it’s less likely to bend or warp, so it’s a great option for applications that rely on this type of strength and rigidity. Our other popular sizes are 12mm MDF and 9mm MDF sheets.
Applications of 18mm Moisture Resistant MDF
18mm moisture-resistant MDF offers all of the advantages of MR MDF while also providing added stability and strength. It’s perfect for applications that require durability and structure such as shop fitting, doors or general joinery. This form of MDF is best-suited to bathrooms and kitchens, or for utility rooms and washrooms where moisture is present. For any environment where damp or humidity is an issue, this sheeting is the perfect material to use. It can be used for applications around the home but is just as popular for commercial environments such as bars, retail spaces and the food and drink industry, as well as being an affordable option for offices. We also offer fire retardant MDF.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is moisture-resistant MDF?
With a slight green tint, water resistant MDF, also known as MR MDF, contains a moisture-repellent resin that provides increased resistance to humidity. As a result of this, our MR MDF is ideal for use in high humidity areas or areas of high moisture.
Is all MDF moisture-resistant?
Not all MDF is moisture-resistant. MDF is a porous material, and moisture-resistant sheets prevent the MDF sheets from warping or being affected by moisture.
Can you paint moisture-resistant MDF?
Often chosen for its inexpensive cost to create furniture, MDF can be painted to add some character or personality to any piece. We have written a guide to assist you in painting your MDF.
How do you waterproof MDF panels?
Moisture-resistant MDF sheets are already resistant to moist areas and humidity, however, you can improve its hydrophobia by coating it in an appropriate waterproof primer or paint.
Can you bond overlays directly to MR MDF?
Yes, MR MDF has excellent bonding properties for laminates and veneers. PVA wood glues achieve high-strength joints.
Do you need to prime moisture-resistant MDF?
Moisture-resistant MDF is easier to paint than other MDF types, however, we still recommend using a primer to ensure an even flat paint coverage. We are equipped with providing your sheets primed for you saving you time and effort.
How should edges be treated on MR MDF?
Edges can be finished with self-adhesive edging strips, solid wood edging, or PVC edging using standard techniques.
How does it compare to plywood for moisture resistance?
Plywood uses waterproof glues but can still separate when wet. MR MDF retains its form and strength better than wood-based boards.
