V-Groove Wall Panelling
Transform your home with our custom height MDF V Groove panelling kit! This coastal-style panelling is perfect if you would like a clean and modern look for your home. We understand that every space is unique, so we will cut the V-Grooves vertically from a 9mm MDF sheet and then cut the board to size to fit your specific measurements seamlessly. You can opt for us to pre-prime the board/s for you too, so that once it’s been delivered it’s ready to stick on the wall and paint straight away!
There are plenty of possibilities to be creative with your tongue and groove panelling. You can also add a wainscotting cap to be placed above the panelling in the form of a dado rail for a textured decorative touch or a picture shelf which is cut to the width of your panelling and can be placed above the panelling to use to display your favourite home decor. We also offer four different choices of groove spacing. You can choose from 80mm, 120mm, 180mm or 220mm depending on how much space you would like between each groove.
Placing your grooved panel board at a custom height means that you can leave room for lighting and shelving on the top half of your walls. The beauty of custom height is that you can measure around your furniture and have the panelling cut to your dimensions, meaning this product is tailored specifically for your home.
Our wall panelling is popular in many rooms around the home. We often see it installed with a picture shelf behind beds, and in hallways with a Dado rail add-on so that you can leave your coat hooks placed above it. We have also seen a lot of nurseries being decorated with custom height panelling recently! You can personalise your MDF V Groove panelling to match whichever room it is installed in by painting it any colour of your choice.
We can also professionally prime your panels, which means once it arrives all you need to do is stick it to the wall and paint over it! Please note, that the grooves themselves may appear to be bare upon delivery. Although the grooves may be exposed, they are still perfectly suitable for painting. We have thoroughly tested this adjustment and found that it does not compromise the quality or integrity of the final product. If you do not order your panelling to come primed, then you will need to do this yourself when it arrives before you apply paint for a nice even finish.
We can only provide wood sheets with a maximum dimension of 2400mm x 1200mm. If your wall is longer than 1200mm, we will provide multiple pieces to make up the total length needed.

Wainscot Cap
There are plenty of possibilities to be creative with your tongue and groove panelling. At Custom Height, you also have the option of adding a wainscotting cap which is placed above your V Grove Panelling. We offer two types of Dado Rail, one of which is Type A is a classical moulding style measuring at 44mm in height and comes out to 21mm. When you choose our Type B Dado Rail style, the top of your V Groove panels will be chamfered and you will then place a piece of 6mm moisture-resistant MDF (provided) above the panelling. This will create an additional horizontal groove at the top of your panelling and add in 50mm to the height. We also provide the option for you to add a Picture Shelf to the top of your V-Groove Panels. This will come at the same width as your panelling and with triangular blocks which give the shelf some extra support. This comes in two depths of 80mm and 120mm and you can use it to display your favourite home decor!
Please note that if you have chosen the pre-priming option and have a picture shelf wainscot, the front-facing edge of the triangular supports may not be primed. This is because the supports are cut from a pre-primed board, and the primer may have come off during the cutting process. However, the supports are still suitable for painting.
Grooved MDF Panel Installation
It couldn't be simpler to install your Custom Height V-Groove panelling. Everything is cut to size for you so all you have to do is apply adhesive and stick to the wall. Here are some simple steps for installation, however, your order will come with a more detailed physical instruction manual to help you out!
If you have a large space to panel, you may have received multiple panels to fit together. You can lay them out on the floor to familiarise yourself with how they will be arranged on the wall.
What You Will Need
- Adhesive
- Dust Sheets
- Spirit level
- Measuring tape
- Caulk
- Caulking gun
- Sandpaper
- Filling Knife
- Choice of paint colour
- Pencil
- Pre-Cut MDF V Groove Panel Boards
Step 1: Prep your space
Please ensure your space has a clean, smooth, flat wall before applying your wall panels. Put your Dust Sheets on the floor beneath the wall you are panelling to protect your flooring.
Step 2: Apply to the wall
With your Caulking Gun, apply a snaking line of Adhesive to the back of the panel and adhere it to the wall. Make sure to use a Spirit Level to make sure that it is straight. Then apply pressure as you push the panel board firmly to the wall. If you have multiple panels to put up, repeat this step until all of your panelling is on the wall. We suggest going from left to right.
Step 3: Caulk
Using the Caulking Gun, apply Caulk to the edges of your panels to fill any gaps. If your wall is not completely straight, you may find that your panelling seems to come away from the wall slightly, so caulk can act as a paintable filler. Use a Filling Knife to smooth the Caulk out and wait for it all to dry.
Step 4: Prime and paint
If you have chosen for us to pre-prime your panelling, then now it is ready for you to paint. If not, you will now need to prime your panelling yourself and wait for it to dry before you then paint it. Once everything is dry. You are free to clean up and enjoy your new panelling!
