Most of our customers choose 100mm width battens but choosing the right batten width for you depends on several factors, including the overall design aesthetic you want to achieve, the size of the room, and personal preference. Here are some considerations to help you make a decision:

Room Size: In larger rooms, you can generally use wider battens without overwhelming the space. For smaller rooms, narrower battens can create the illusion of more space and prevent the walls from feeling too busy.

Design Preferences: Personal taste plays a significant role. Some people prefer a more subtle, classic look with narrow battens, while others may like the bold statement of wider battens.

Proportion and Scale: The batten width should be proportional to the height of the walls. Taller walls can accommodate wider battens, while shorter walls might benefit from narrower ones.

Visual Impact: Wider battens can create a more dramatic and noticeable effect, drawing attention to the panelling. Narrower battens are generally more understated.

The thickness of the battens impacts the overall aesthetic and durability of the panelling. 9mm is a popular option but we can also provide 6mm for less depth and 12mm for a bold look with maximum impact. Here are some considerations to help you make a decision:

Structural Stability: Thicker MDF battens generally provide more structural stability and strength. If the wall will be subjected to any impact or stress, thicker battens may be a more durable option.

Design Preference: Thicker battens can create a bolder, more substantial look, while thinner battens may result in a more delicate or refined appearance.

Panelling Style: If you're going for a more traditional or classic look, thicker battens might be suitable. For a modern or minimalist design, thinner battens could be more appropriate.
