Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness birch plywood should I use?

For lightweight crafts and shelving, go with 4mm or 6mm birch ply. Use 9mm or 12mm for furniture, cabinets, and sturdier projects. 18mm+ birch plywood can be used structurally, such as for flooring.

Is it okay to use birch plywood outdoors?

Birch plywood is intended for indoor use only unless properly treated with exterior sealers. For outdoor projects, marine-grade plywood is a better choice.

How do I get a smooth finish on birch plywood?

Birch plywood's smooth sanded face allows for an easy quality finish. Stain, paint, lacquer, or varnish birch plywood for protection and aesthetics. Apply a sealer first for best results.

What's the best way to cut birch plywood?

Use a sharp fine-tooth blade and cut slowly to prevent tear-out on birch plywood edges. You can also score the cut line with a utility knife before cutting for cleaner edges.

Can birch plywood be glued effectively?

Yes, birch plywood can be edge glued or face glued successfully with PVA wood glue. Ensure proper spread, clamping pressure, and cure time for durable glue bonds.

How should I store birch plywood sheets?

Keep birch plywood lying flat, indoors, and away from moisture sources. Avoid leaning sheets against a wall long-term. Covering sheets helps limit dust and debris accumulation.

Really good finish to the wood. Cut spot on to size, clean cut edges.

HK, 13th October

Ah it's great, perfect, exactly what I needed. SO useful. Will absolutely be using again - I don't have a car so it's less easy for me to go to a big DIY place for getting this kind of thing done, this is just exactly what I need. Overnight delivery so I had it the very next day.

Mr John Christiansen, 11th October

I only ordered a plywood shelf that was cut to size and was so happy that it fitted perfectly. I bought it as a trial to see how accurately it was cut as I need to order some more which I will now definitely be ordering.

Scammers. Listing in mm instead of cm as most conpanies. Bought a sample f9r almost £40 and they did not resolve nor accepted return (even if it fits via letterbox)

I had a few problems with the delivery people. Contacted Cut My. A lovely lady Apologised, and sorted it out for me. Delivery Charge was Refunded too, due to the problem. I’m very grateful. Would recommend them 100%

Name anne moir,

Really easy to order. Good that they also give you the measurements of how to put the panelling on the wall! Made it so much easier for me to panel and will use again. Delivery was also quick

Perfect service for my needs. Had the plywood 9mm thickness I couldn't get from local builder supplies or DIY stores. And all cut neatly to size for which I didn't have the tools. Fast delivery too. Took the stress out of the job.

Samantha,

Excellent and has made my wardrobe far more useful, it was all hanging rails before. Had to have the shelves custom made due to the size. Very very heavy though, I couldn’t lift the parcel and had to split them to carry them. The courier left them out in the rain, but luckily they were well wrapped

Helen,

Helpful and great service. Good quality products

K.G,

Impecable service, they delivered all the MDF pieces I ordered (c13), perfectly measured, packing was superb to prevent issues and it was done really quick. First time using them and I'd definitely recommend them.

I placed an order to replace green house glass. The cut pieces were the exact size and it made the job quick and easy. I had to cut one piece to an odd sharp which was a bit more difficult to do but with a bit of time and patience I managed. This is a good quality product. Delivered in good time. I would recommend this company and will use them again. Thank you

Gary Newton,

A perfect fit, delivered when stated and very well packed.

Mal Haddon,

Easy process end to end and the lowest prices I found after extensive searches. I spent literally hours looking for simple gloss white slabs and found some absurd pricing and delivery charges. At the point of almost giving up I found Cut My and in a seamless process the order had gone through almost before I had realised.

Julian Bond,

Good product, easy to fit and was cut to size. However, when I ordered it, the site was an overnight delivery next day as standard if ordered by 1200hrs. My order arrived day 5 or 6 with a small disclaimer on the order confirmation email.

Paul,

Great service Efficient and cut precisely. Will use again and highly recommend.

Maria Tsiatsiani,

I ordered two pieces of Perspex to repair two broken windows. It was easy to place the order online. The order came promptly and the pieces had been cut true to size. Maybe a little pricey for two smallish pieces, but no complaints about the order process or the delivery, or the quality of the product itself.

Good advice prior to buying. Fairly easy to navigate the various shapes on offer and the order was delivered extremely promptly.

Catherine Alexander-Kiff,

Cut My sent me excellent quality acrylic splash-back samples, which arrived quickly. The colours weren't quite right for me so I have ended up buying ones the exact same to my worktop. Otherwise I'd have bought some using your excellent cutting service with cut-outs and fit them myself! I also easily got through easily to speak to a customer service agent to ask a technical detail about cut-outs (when I was considering using these acrylic ones) and they were very helpful. So I am impressed with this company! Thank you.

Gail Edgley,

It's just a great easy site to use and follow, and when the parts arrive, they are very good, the machining is great, and they are well packaged. Will use again.

Nick Williams,

Fits perfecly and looks good

Eleanor Johnstone,

All clear instructions on cut outs and the diagram helps a lot so you know what you are doing.

Palmira Brinckman,

I was a bit worried about ordering online as I needed very precise sizes I removed one star, as one board came broken. If you order similar sizes, the packaging is ok. My order included a large piece along with small ones, and the small ones were so badly packed that came loose, which made it very easy to damaged during delivery (this is important when you order melamine covering, otherwise that would be fine)

Li,

Exact size and quality, delivered on time. Great service.

Simmo,

Excellent service thanks🥳

The shelves were easy to order, pay for and they were delivered quickly. Great service.

Service, packing and product A1+++

Charlie Farley,

I have used a number of other companies to provide cut-to-size acryllic or perspex sheets. They have all been sub-par with lack of attention to requirements and vastly inflated delivery costs. I have ordered 3 separate items from CutMy in the last month. Firstly, the online ordering experience could not be simpler with every option clearly marked and a constantly updating schematic appearing as you refine the requirements of the order. The price on all 3 occasions was reasonable but the major thing that impressed me compared to the other suppliers I had used was quick delivery at a very reasonable price. The first item delivered I would score as 8 out of 10. The size was perfect, the polished edges were good but not perfect but worryingly there was a very obvious scratch of about 8 cm right through the protective film and encroaching into the actual product. As it happened it was placed in such a way to be invisible when the sheet was used for my needs. The second order was more complicated with 2 off of an item including polished edges, rounded corners and drilled holes. This item was perfect in every way and absolutely 10 out of 10! The third item was simpler but a perfect item was delivered within 2 days of ordering. Overall I am delighted with the items delivered but there is maybe an opportunity for enhanced QA on occasion.

K Mitchell,

Ease of order , prompt service clear communication and cut accurately

andy,

Fast accurate timely service thank you
