Do I need to do any cutting or measuring myself?
Yes, you will need to measure your wall space and cut the MDF panelling strips down to the appropriate lengths yourself. While the strips come pre-cut to standard widths, the lengths are sold in 1200mm sections, so you'll need to calculate how many strips are required for your wall panel design and trim accordingly.
How do I choose the right width for my MDF panelling strips?
Wider strips (100-120mm) create a classic board and batten look, while narrower 50-80mm widths allow more intricate patterns like herringbone. You should consider the room's size, where larger rooms can handle wider planks while narrower spaces often suit slimmer strips. You can also mix widths for added dimension.
How do I decide what thickness for my MDF panelling strips?
Thicker 9mm or 12mm strips will create bolder 3D texturing and shadow lines compared to slimmer 6mm strips. 6mm is best for minimalist, seamless looks, while 9mm and 12mm give a more dramatic, rustic vibe.
Do the strips need any prep work before installation?
No prep work is needed before installation. We recommend installing the strips first, before priming and painting, so you only have to prime and paint once after the strips have been glued or nailed in place. Priming and painting the strips individually beforehand would require an additional painting step after installation to cover the seams between strips.
