The term "wainscot" is derived from the German words "wand" (wall) and "schotten" (to board or line with wood). Historically, wainscoting was used as a practical solution to insulate and protect the lower part of walls from moisture, damage from furniture, and general wear and tear.
Beyond its functional and aesthetic purposes, wainscot panelling can also serve as a design element to create visual interest and define different spaces within a room. For example, it can be used to separate an entryway from a living area or to create the illusion of separate zones within an open-concept layout.

Wainscot Wall Panelling with a Dado Rail
A dado rail adds a traditional touch to your half-height panelling and makes the perfect wainscot cap. A wainscot cap gives the panelling a more traditional, classic look than shaker wall panelling on its own.

Easy to order, easy to fit equals a warmer hall
It was easy to order and I found it staightforward to to fix the secondary glazing on my own. Our house is 103 yrs old and the perspex was to cover the leaded light glass surrounding the front door. It is very discrete and not obvious at all but it has made a significant difference in the temperature in our hall. There was a slight hiccup in my order but it was dealt with so easily and quickly by Hetty that 5 stars are really warranted.
