White Secondary Glazing Tape 12.7mm x 5m

Magnetic secondary glazing tape is an easy-to-remove tape that allows you to fix sheets of acrylic to your windows for a cost-effective and simple secondary glazing alternative to traditional double glazing. As well as insulating, our white magnetic glazing tape provides effective noise insulation and instant access to the window beneath.

Our white magnetic tape comes in two parts, one white steel strip that sticks to the window frame and one magnetic strip which sticks to the glazing. The magnetic strip’s adhesive side is white for a discrete look on white window frames.

We recommend using this to only fix acrylic sheets of thickness between 2 to 4mm, which measure no larger than a metre squared. The tape is 12.7mm x 5m, so there should be plenty for you to mount on a meter square window - order multiple quantities for larger windows and use the strips side by side to double the magnetic force. Please consider the width of the tape (12.7mm) when measuring for the size of acrylic secondary glazing required or 25.4mm if doubling up on tape for larger windows over 1m.

The white magnet glazing tape comes in coils and can be cut at the required measurement for your project. To use, measure, and frame up to the point that the inside edge of the tape will be placed on.

Once you’ve measured the length you need and cut the specific amount of tape, clean and degrease the window frame using an appropriate preparation wipe or cleaner, and then stick the black magnetic tape into position on the sheet. We recommend using one of our microfibre cloths for this task.

Hold the panel onto the window frame so it overlaps equally on all sides. Draw a pencil line around the sides of the sheet onto the frame and cut the strip to fit this, sticking it into place just inside of the pencil marks. You can then clip the sheet into place.

For larger sheets, although magnet glazing tape works well on its own, we recommend either doubling up on the tape you use on the panel, or putting a few screws directly under the panel to support the weight and prevent the risk of slippage of the magnets.

Important Safety Notice for Magnetic Secondary Glazing Tape

When handling the magnetic secondary glazing tape, please be cautious during the unrolling process. The steel tape is tightly wound and can unravel quickly, which may cause injury if not handled carefully. To avoid any accidents:

  • Hold the tape securely as you begin unrolling it.
  • Slowly unwind the tape to control its speed.
  • Keep fingers clear of the edges as the steel tape could snap back.

Safety is a priority, so please take your time and ensure you are in a safe space while handling the product.

How does the magnetic tape work?

There are two parts to the magnetic tape, a magnetic strip and a steel strip. The white steel strip sticks to the window surround and the magnetic strip sticks to the glazing. When these are aligned they have a significant hold similar to a magnet on the fridge.

How do I install magnetic tape?

  1. Clean and degrease the surface you will be sticking the tape to.
  2. Cut the strips to the required length and then peel off the self-adhesive backing and stick them into position. If used for secondary glazing, adhere the white steel strip to the window frame and the magnetic strip to the glazing and ensure there are no gaps in the tape so that a thermal seal between the window frame and glazing is created.
  3. Align the magnetic and steel strips so that they stick to one another.

Can I use Magnetic tape with glass?

No, we do not recommend using this product with glass as the glass will be too heavy for the magnets to work properly.

Can I use it on an external window frame?

No, we do not recommend using magnetic tape on the outside of your home as it will be vulnerable to high winds and theft.

What size window can I use White Magnetic Tape on?

We recommend a window no larger than 1m x 1m with 2mm, 3mm or 4mm acrylic. If your window is larger than 1m x 1m then you can rest the glazing on a window sill or place a couple of screws under the glazing panel to support it. You can also double the tape and apply it side by side but ensure you account for the double 24mm width when measuring.

How much tape do I need?

Ideally, you want enough to create a complete outline around the edge of the glazing panel. If you have ordered a secondary glazing pane measuring 1000mm x 500mm, the perimeter is 3000mm; one unit of our tape would be enough to cover this as we supply 5m lengths.

How Wide is the Magnetic Tape?

Both the steel tape and the magnetic tape are 12.7mm wide.

How Thick is the Magnetic Tape?

The steel tape is 1.2mm thick and the magnetic tape is 2.5mm thick.
